When Catseye first came to the mansion Catseye did not like human names because human names confused Catseye because they did not mean anything so Catseye named people what they look like or what they do but now Catseye understands that naming people after what they look like or do is like telling them that they are a thing and that it is mean and Catseye does not want to be mean to people at the BigHouse or Catseye's other friends in the BusyTown so Catseye is going to ask what people want Catseye to call them if they like to be called by their real names to be nice or if they like their special name Catseye gave them.
Also Catseye learned that peoples names are veryveryspecial to people sometimes because of the people who named them what they are named but Catseye does not know why people have their names and Catseye wants to understand if people want to tell Catseye why they have their special names Catseye would like to read, nyah!

Date: 2009-06-23 07:33 pm (UTC)My name is coming from Dr. Marcel, who was at the camp in Bosnia. He was working at the Red Cross camp where I was born. My mother did not really want me because of the war and how she was getting pregnant, so she told Dr. Marcel he could give me a name. He called me "Yvette", after a girl he is knowing in medical school.
And that is why an Albanian girl is having the French name. :)

Date: 2009-06-23 08:10 pm (UTC)Monkey Joe named himself. Well, he says him mom named him Monkey. He just thought Joe sounded cool so he added it on later.
A lot of people at my old school used to call me things like "Rodent" or "Vermin." So I don't like those words so much anymore, especially as names.
I don't mind when you call me SquirrelGirl though. Because I kind of am. And you're not mean about it at all.

Date: 2009-06-23 09:52 pm (UTC)Carmilla Maxine. And apparently Carmilla doesn't mean Caramel. Huh. Always wanted to say I was named after a candy. Not sure what Maxine means, but hey.
I call myself Cammie, I like the way it sounds better and it stops people from calling me Camilla by accident. On occasions I've had to sound tough I sometimes called myself Scorpion - which is a long story.
Then I have the name my bio-mom gave me, which I don't think I'll ever use.

Date: 2009-06-23 10:51 pm (UTC)My name isn't the name I was given when I was born - my birth name was Gemile Szardos, but I got taken away from my family and that name got used against me by the man who had me: whenever he wanted to control me magically, he'd use my real name. Otherwise he'd call me "Blossom". Ugh.
When I got taken away from him and left at the hospital, I was given the name "Amanda Sefton" by Romany and that was the name I kept growing up. Even after finding my birth family again, I kept using Amanda, since that was the name I was used to. When my mother disowned me, I changed my name legally to Amanda Sefton - it's who I am, and who I'll always be.

Date: 2009-06-24 03:26 am (UTC)Sammar: A name which means simultaneously "night conversation" in Arabic and reveals that mum secretly wanted a girl, a desire which I believe is conveyed by gifting me with what I am quite certain to be a traditionally feminine name. The only alternative is that she has not retained her Arabic nearly as well as she believes she has, and, like so many removed from her culture of origin, simply settled for one of sufficiently pleasing sound.
Cartier: "One who transports goods". Attributable to my father, presumably as additional incentive to remember his Responsibilities.
Laverne: Both serving to supply a meaning of "Dweller by an alder-tree" and ensure the alternation between male and female appellation continue to the bitter end.
Shockingly, I was off to a bit of a rough start in primary school.

Date: 2009-06-25 11:42 pm (UTC)But my mom didn't exactly name me after her. Instead, when I was born I was all pink and screaming and I was LOUD. And a calliope is a type of instrument made out of whistles, and it's really really loud. So I was a Calliope when I was born.
And Callie is a shorter version of that, which I like because Calliope can sound a bit long and old some times. I don't know.
